Chronicles
The Primal Chronicles are a collection of 40 lore notes that tell the story of the Vale — the Wardens, the guardians' pact, the first tamer, and the sigil that marks it all. Notes surface on their own as you play, each opening a page in the codex and igniting a short double-XP burst.
How Notes Are Found
[edit | edit source]- Chronicle notes are discovered by playing, not bought or crafted. As you rack up completions in a skill, that skill's notes surface one at a time.
- There are three notes per skill. They always appear in a fixed order — you find a skill's first note before its second, and so on.
- Finds are steady and predictable rather than random: keep working a skill and its notes will come. This means no duplicates and no bad luck — every skill's three notes are guaranteed with enough play. A skill's second note needs level-30+ work in that skill, and its third note level-60+.
- Each save has its own hidden chronicle salt — a fixed value that gently steers your finds toward the pages you're still missing, so two players rarely uncover the codex in the same order. It costs nothing and is not a currency; it simply personalises the order.
- The 40th note, "The Sigil", is the capstone: it is granted the moment you hold all 39 of the others.
The XP Burst
[edit | edit source]Every note you find ignites a 10-minute ×2 XP burst (carried by the "Echo of the Vale"). If you find another note while a burst is running, its timer refreshes — but bursts never stack past ×2.
The Notes
[edit | edit source]Thirteen skills each guard a three-note story arc:
| Skill | Note 1 | Note 2 | Note 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Foraging | A Carved Waymark | The Gatherer's Rule | Seeds in the Ash |
| Logging | Rings Beyond Counting | The Planted Line | A Woodsman's Confession |
| Mining | Veins Like Script | The Hollow Hammer | The Warm Stratum |
| Fishing | Scales of Glass | The Ferryman's Bell | What the Coelacanth Saw |
| Cooking | The Long Table | A Recipe in the Old Hand | Salt That Sings |
| Crafting | Knots That Teach | The Unfinished Basket | Sigil in the Weave |
| Smithing | The Cold Forge | Bronze Remembers | The Oathblade's Twin |
| Alchemy | Glow Without Source | The Warden's Draught | Essence of What |
| Hunting | The Bloodless Kill | Alpha's Eye | The Last Great Hunt |
| Taming | First Friend | The Saddle That Fits All | Words They Answer To |
| Expeditions | The Guardian's Pact | They Do Not Hate You | The Empty Seat |
| Delving | Stairs, Not Caves | The Door of Amber | The Curator's Ghost |
| Farming | Soil That Answers | The Warden's Garden | Harvest Prayer |
The capstone note, The Sigil, ties all thirty-nine together — and it is more than lore. Holding The Sigil is the key to the Amber Door, the eleventh cave hidden in the Sundered Vale (opened at Delving 95). The codex, completed, graduates into a key. Holding it also unlocks Ascension's fifth free tier and adds a flat bonus to your Ascension score.
