Amber is Primal Idle's currency, earned mainly by selling gathered materials from your Bank. This page is a priority list for spending it — what to buy first at each stage so every Amber pushes your progress. Most of it goes to the Shop (and its late-game Exotic Broker tier), plus the Tool Ladders and the Ancestral Monument.
The golden rule: never buy supplies you can make. Shop consumables are always priced above their sell value — they're a safety net, not a source. Spend on permanent upgrades instead.
Early game — quality of life
[edit | edit source]Cheap, high-impact buys for a young save:
- Reinforced Vault (rank 1 just 500 Amber) — more Bank slots. A full Bank blocks new item types, so stay ahead of it. This is almost always your first purchase.
- Offline Satchel (from 5,000) — extends offline progress from 18h toward 24h. Worth it fast if you can't check in often.
- Sharpened Tools (from 3,000) — +2% speed to all four gathering skills per rank; helps everything you gather.
- Sturdy Bandages (from 4,000) — shorter injury recovery once you're Hunting and running Expeditions.
Mid game — open new systems
[edit | edit source]Now spend to unlock whole features:
- Trader's Charter (from 2,500) — opens the Trading Post and grows its daily stock/demand. A recurring Amber earner, so it pays for itself.
- Expedition Ledger (from 2,000) — extra Dispatch mission slots; cheap passive income.
- Foreman's Whistle (from 60,000) — extra hired-hand background-gather slots (first slot at Taming 25).
- Extra Stall (from 2,000) — more Stable room for a growing collection.
- Stasis Vault (from 10,000) — park extra creatures in preserving amber (upkeep and injuries freeze).
- Assay Bench (20,000 / 50,000 / 125,000) — +10% rare-material find per rank, once you're chasing forge mats.
- Bounty Stipend (60,000) — a permanent extra Contract Board slot (more Fang Marks).
Late game — the big sinks
[edit | edit source]By now Amber pours in, and these are where it goes:
- Exotic Broker (unlocks at 600 total skill levels or an Alpha arena win):
- Master Vault — +8 Bank slots × 49 ranks. Together with the Reinforced Vault and the Storage Hut this takes the Bank to 623 slots — room for one of every item.
- plus Broker's Book, Grand Bazaar Pass, Contract Seal and Villager Charter for economy quality-of-life.
- Tool Ladders — per-skill gathering tools from Flint (2,000) up to Starfall (1,360,000). Each rank cuts that skill's action time 4% (up to 24%). Ranks 1–5 across all four skills run about 2.7M Amber — a strong, lasting speed-up.
- Ancestral Monument — an Amber-priced Homestead capstone (unlocks at your first skill 99). Ten levels totalling ~1.54M Amber raise the value of everything you sell by up to +10% — it partly pays for itself.
Rough priority order
[edit | edit source]- Bank slots (Reinforced Vault) — always keep ahead of a full Bank.
- Offline Satchel — protect your idle hours.
- Sharpened Tools — broad gathering speed.
- Trader's Charter — unlock the Trading Post earner.
- Cheap slot upgrades (Expedition Ledger, Extra Stall, Foreman's Whistle).
- Assay Bench / Bounty Stipend once you're forging and contracting.
- Unlock the Exotic Broker → Master Vault toward the 623 cap.
- Tool Ladders and the Ancestral Monument — the great late-game sinks.
