Equipment
Equipment is the gear your survivor wears into battle: weapons, armour, shields and trinkets. Equipping better gear raises your attack and defense, which decide how well you fare in Hunting and on Expeditions. This page covers the player's own equipment; for creature gear see Dino Gear, and for full drop-only Sets see the Sets page.
Equipment slots
editYou have six equipment slots, and each holds one item at a time:
| Slot | Typical stat | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Attack | Your main source of damage |
| Head | Defense | Helms and hoods |
| Chest | Defense | Tunics, vests and plate |
| Legs | Defense | Leggings and greaves |
| Shield | Defense | Shields and aegises |
| Trinket | Attack + Defense | Charms, talismans and pendants that give a little of both |
How stats work
edit- Attack comes mainly from your weapon (and a little from trinkets). Higher attack means you win Hunting fights and Expedition runs faster and against tougher foes.
- Defense comes from the four armour slots — head, chest, legs, shield — plus trinkets. Higher defense means you take less punishment and survive harder content.
- Your total attack and defense are the sum of every equipped piece. A balanced loadout fills all six slots rather than stacking a single stat.
- Wearing a complete biome Set adds a flat bonus on top of the individual pieces — see Sets.
- Combat consumables stack with gear: Food heals you mid-fight and Tonics such as Berserker Brew (+attack) or Stoneskin Elixir (+defense) give temporary boosts.
Where equipment comes from
edit- Crafting — early wood, bone and hide gear.
- Smithing — the metal tiers, from bronze through obsidian.
- Cave delves — eight unique best-in-slot pieces, each a rare drop from one specific cave (see the Unique gear table below).
- Expeditions — drop-only biome Sets and the endgame Primal set.
- The Shop — the Ancient Amber Pendant, sold only by the Amber Exchange.
Weapons
editWeapons are made by Crafting and Smithing and provide attack.
| Weapon | Attack | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Wooden Club | 6 | Crafting |
| Stone Blade | 5 | Smithing |
| Hide Sling | 10 | Crafting |
| Bone Spear | 16 | Crafting |
| Bronze Spear | 15 | Smithing |
| Bronze Axe | 17 | Smithing |
| Hunting Bow | 20 | Crafting |
| Iron Hammer | 30 | Smithing |
| Iron Spear | 28 | Smithing |
| Silver Blade | 34 | Smithing |
| Composite Bow | 39 | Crafting |
| Golden Warhammer | 39 | Smithing |
| Obsidian Spear | 47 | Smithing |
| Crystal-Forged Blade | 45 | Smithing |
| Obsidian Blade | 50 | Smithing |
| Flint Spear | 8 | Crafting |
| Copper Knife | 10 | Smithing |
| Ashwood Recurve | 32 | Crafting |
| Ironbark Stave | 47 | Crafting |
| Gilded Blade | 43 | Smithing |
Beyond the craftable tiers, drop-only Sets pieces and the Primal set climb far higher (the Primal Warspear tops out at 101 attack).
Armour
editArmour fills the head, chest, legs and shield slots and provides defense.
Armour classes
editSince v0.36.57 crafted gear is priced by biome tier rather than by skill level, so Crafting and Smithing pay the same at the same tier — a Fiber Tunic is now worth exactly as much as an Iron Plate, just shaped differently. Each source makes a different class:
| Class | Made by | Shape |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Crafting | Spends part of its budget on attack, the rest on defense |
| Heavy | Smithing | Puts its whole budget into defense |
| Medium | biome drop sets | Between the two |
A light piece is therefore not a worse heavy one — it is a different trade. The same change made every slot level-up worth something (no crafted piece merely matches something you already had), tied each hunt to a home biome that pays its armour material, and made crafted armour broadly stronger — the Hide Vest is the only piece that dropped (4 → 3 defense).
| Armour | Slot | Defense | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hide Hood | Head | 2 | Crafting |
| Bone Helm | Head | 5 | Crafting |
| Bronze Helm | Head | 5 | Smithing |
| Obsidian Helm | Head | 13 | Smithing |
| Hide Vest | Chest | 3 | Crafting |
| Fiber Tunic | Chest | 6 | Crafting |
| Iron Plate | Chest | 8 | Smithing |
| Obsidian Plate | Chest | 15 | Smithing |
| Hide Leggings | Legs | 5 | Crafting |
| Bronze Greaves | Legs | 6 | Smithing |
| Iron Greaves | Legs | 9 | Smithing |
| Wooden Shield | Shield | 4 | Crafting |
| Bronze Shield | Shield | 6 | Smithing |
| Iron Tower Shield | Shield | 9 | Smithing |
| Obsidian Bulwark | Shield | 13 | Smithing |
| Mangrove-Frame Shield | Shield | 6 | Crafting |
| Copper Cap | Head | 3 | Smithing |
| Iron Helm | Head | 8 | Smithing |
Two armour pieces also carry a little attack alongside their defense: the Bone Helm (+1) and the Mangrove-Frame Shield (+2).
Trinkets
editTrinkets occupy their own slot and give a mix of attack and defense.
| Trinket | Attack | Defense | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amber Charm | 2 | 2 | Crafting |
| Sky Talisman | 4 | 4 | Crafting |
| Ancient Amber Pendant | 5 | 5 | Amber Exchange (Shop) |
| Cloudwood Talisman | 6 | 6 | Crafting |
| Silver Gemring | 3 | 3 | Smithing |
| Trailhorn Talisman | 4 | 3 | Crafting |
| Cloudwood Glider | 0 | 6 | Crafting |
Unique cave gear
editCave delves each hold one best-in-slot unique piece that drops nowhere else — a very rare reward for repeated winning delves. These are among the strongest single items outside the drop-only Sets.
| Item | Slot | Stats | Source cave |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fang of the Depths | Weapon | 85 attack | Vale Abyss |
| Flickerfang Spear | Weapon | 45 attack | Drowned Cavern |
| Mosslit Crown | Head | 12 defense | Echoing Deep |
| Pearlscale Vest | Chest | 20 defense | Tidewrack Cave |
| Stalker's Greaves | Legs | 16 defense | Glacier Hollow |
| Aegis of the Deep | Shield | 24 defense | Ashen Gallery |
| Glowstone Talisman | Trinket | 10 attack / 10 defense | Skyvein Chasm |
| Cavern Charm | Trinket | 5 attack / 5 defense | Rootway Hollow |
