Alchemy

[edit | edit source]

Alchemy is a processing skill that brews and distills gathered plants, minerals and other ingredients into tonics, brews, elixirs and tranquilizers. Every recipe consumes one or more ingredients and produces a finished mixture that lands in your Bank. There are 39 recipes in all, spanning Alchemy levels 1–99.

Alchemy's products fall into a few families:

  • Buff potions — drink one to gain a temporary, timed bonus: a skill's actions run faster, a skill has a chance to double its yield, combat expedition/hunt power goes up (attack/defense), all skills earn more XP, your HP regenerates, or your crops grow faster / yield more.
  • TranquilizersTranquilizer Brew, Potent Tranquilizer and the starter Calming Tonic — consumed to subdue wild Creatures during Taming. No timer; they are spent when you tame.
  • Restoratives — Fern Poultice, Sagebind Salve and Primal Balm instantly heal hurt or injured Creatures rather than granting a timed buff. They form a ladder of reach (below), not of strength.
  • Reagents — Primal Essence is brewed as an ingredient for other endgame recipes (e.g. the Vale's Ascendant Elixir) rather than drunk.

How buff potions work

[edit | edit source]

Drinking a potion applies its effect for the listed duration, then it wears off. The rules the engine uses:

  • One buff per effect type. Drinking a potion of the same kind (and same skill, for skill buffs) replaces the active one — it refreshes the timer rather than stacking two copies. Drinking a fresh Miner's Brew, for example, just resets Mining speed to +10% for another 20 minutes.
  • Different effect types run together. A skill-speed buff, a combat buff and an XP buff can all be active at once, because each is a different kind.
  • Timers run offline. Buffs tick down whether or not the game is open, and expire cleanly mid-session.

Combat buffs (attack / defense) feed the same score the Guardian and raid fights use, so a Titan Brew or Stoneskin Elixir is a real, if brief, boost before a hard expedition.

The salve ladder

[edit | edit source]

The three salves all heal instantly and to full — what separates them is how many creatures each one reaches. Since v0.36.93 no two share a reach, so each is a genuine upgrade over the last rather than a pricier way to do the same job.

Salve Alchemy Heals Best for
Fern Poultice 10 One hurt or injured creature Patching a single dino cheaply
Sagebind Salve 48 Every hurt or injured creature in your party (up to 5) Cleaning up after an expedition — the party is exactly who takes the damage
Primal Balm 86 Every hurt or injured creature in the whole Stable Mass recovery, including benched dinos

The Heal buttons (on the Stable and on a dino's card on the Player page) spend your cheapest suitable salve, so stock the low rungs freely — a Primal Balm is never burned while a Fern Poultice sits in the Bank.

The potion shelf and auto-drink

[edit | edit source]

You no longer have to open the Bank to drink. Since v0.36.48 every skill page carries a potion shelf at the top holding that skill's own potions as tap-to-drink bottles — Lumber Tonic on Logging, Miner's Brew on Mining, the crop tonics on the Farm. A bottle shows how many you hold, flips to a live countdown once drunk, and sits greyed with a "Brew in Alchemy" hint for anything you haven't brewed yet.

The four XP potions — Focus Tonic, Sage Elixir, Scholar Elixir and Ascendant Elixir — boost whatever you are doing rather than one skill, so since v0.36.65 they share a single XP tile on every skill page (the Farm included); tapping it opens a picker.

Auto-drink (v0.36.65): every tile has an auto pip. Switch it on and the moment that potion expires another is poured — the same one you last picked, so re-aiming it just means choosing a different tier in the picker. Each line is its own switch, so you can keep XP topped up without burning through your speed brews. Auto-drink keeps running while you're away, so a long night can genuinely work through a shelf — the welcome-back summary lists every potion it drank, the way it already lists what your workers ate.

How to progress

[edit | edit source]

Brewing a mixture grants Alchemy experience and raises your Alchemy level, unlocking stronger recipes that give more XP but need rarer ingredients and take longer to prepare. Alchemy draws ingredients from across the gathering skills — Foraging berries and plants, Logging wood, Mining minerals, Farming crops and the occasional swamp or cave gather — so keeping those stocked lets you brew the best recipe you have unlocked.

Several recipes must be brewed in a specific biome reached via Expeditions; recipes with no biome listed can be brewed anywhere.

Recipes

[edit | edit source]

Every recipe, with what the finished mixture does. Effect is the bonus you get from one dose; Duration is how long a drunk potion lasts (tranquilizers, restoratives and reagents have no timer). Interval is the base brew time before speed bonuses.

Intervals are base times before speed bonuses. Where a mixture has a companion or set that boosts Alchemy speed, the real brew time is shorter.

Notable brews

[edit | edit source]
  • Best XP-per-brew ramp: the endgame distillations — Primal Essence (362 XP), Wayfarer Tonic (545), Scholar Elixir (587), Titan Brew (855), Ascendant Elixir (975) — carry Alchemy through the 90s, though their long intervals mean they are slow to churn.
  • Combat prep: Berserker Brew → Wrathroot Tonic → Titan Brew for attack; Ironhide → Bulwark → Stoneskin Elixir for defense. Stack one of each (different kinds) before a hard Guardian.
  • XP boosters (all-skills): Focus Tonic (+5%), Sage Elixir (+10%), Scholar Elixir (+25%), Ascendant Elixir (+20% for a long 30 min).
  • Taming staples: keep Tranquilizer Brew early and Potent Tranquilizer for the high-level tames, plus Tamer's Brew (+12% Taming speed) while grinding.
  • Farming : Growth Tonic (+15% growth) and Verdant Elixir (+1 yield) pair well during a planting push.
  • Regen ladder (since v0.38.18): Mossmilk Draught (+1 HP, 10 min) → Bog Mint Tea (+1 HP, 15 min) → Trollblood Tonic (+2 HP, 15 min). Before that patch Trollblood matched Bog Mint Tea exactly despite costing more and needing Ashen Peaks; now every rung is a genuine step up.
