== How biomes gate content ==

Every biome acts as a gate on several systems at once:

* '''Expedition patrol''' — a repeatable run that yields that biome's relic (and sometimes basic materials). See [[Expeditions]].
* '''Guardian boss''' — a tougher challenge run. Defeating it advances your progress and unlocks the next biome in the chain.
* '''Cave''' — one [[Delving]] cave per biome, which opens once the biome is fully cleared.
* '''Dig site''' — one [[Excavation]] site per biome, started with that biome's Dig Site Map.
* '''Creatures''' — a roster of wild species that appear on the biome's [[Trail]] and can be tamed.

The very first biome, the '''Grasslands''', is available from the start. Every other biome requires the previous biome's Guardian to be defeated.
