The single most important progression track in Primal Idle is the biome chain: ten regions, each locked behind the previous one's Guardian. Clearing a Guardian opens the next biome — and with it new gathering actions, creatures, materials, caves, and Arenas. This page is a checklist of that chain and how to keep beating the next Guardian.
The chain
[edit | edit source]Each biome unlocks when you defeat the previous biome's Guardian (expedition). The Guardian's own Expeditions level gate and difficulty:
| # | Biome | Guardian | Expeditions level | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Grasslands | Thunderfoot Matriarch | 5 | 60 |
| 2 | Redwood Wilds | Old Growth Tyrant | 20 | 150 |
| 3 | Murkwater Swamp | Murk Sovereign | 27 | 200 |
| 4 | Cavern Depths | Hollow King | 35 | 240 |
| 5 | Scorched Badlands | Scorched King | 41 | 260 |
| 6 | Coral Shallows | Tide Leviathan | 44 | 290 |
| 7 | Frozen Wastes | Frostmaw | 50 | 320 |
| 8 | Ashen Peaks | Ash Tyrant | 55 | 380 |
| 9 | Skyreach Plateau | Sky Sovereign | 58 | 420 |
| 10 | the Sundered Vale | The Sundered One | 65 | 500 |
Beyond the Vale, defeating The Sundered One tears open the Rifts — three expedition-only endgame zones (see the Endgame Guide).
Beating the next Guardian
[edit | edit source]A Guardian fight is decided by your expedition score against its difficulty. When you're close but losing, raise your score:
- Upgrade your gear. Equip the best weapon and armour you can craft, forge, or find; later, forged gear and expedition sets push far higher.
- Farm the biome's set. Patrols and its cave drop the biome set; a few pieces (or a full set's flat bonus) can tip a Guardian.
- Bring the right party. Fill expedition party slots with strong, bred and imprinted creatures, and assign roles (Attack for power, Guard to survive, Scout to flee).
- Level Expeditions. Running patrols raises the skill and unlocks the Guardian action in the first place.
- Mastery and Museum. Expedition mastery perks and the Skyreach/Vale museum wings add score and yield.
What each biome adds
[edit | edit source]Every new biome is a content unlock, not just a checkbox:
- New gathering actions for Foraging, Logging, Mining and Fishing (higher tiers, better XP).
- New Creatures to tame — often better companions than anything you had.
- New materials that feed higher Cooking/Crafting/Smithing/Alchemy recipes.
- A cave (via Delving) with a best-in-slot unique, and an Arena Artifact.
- A Museum wing of that biome's fossils.
So even when a Guardian is out of reach, progress in the current biome — better tames, gear, and materials — is exactly what gets you over the next one.
Checklist per biome
[edit | edit source]For each biome, aim to:
- Clear its patrols and beat its Guardian to open the next region.
- Tame its standout companion(s).
- Farm a few set pieces for the score bump.
- Run its cave for the unique and the Arena Artifact.
- Donate its fossils toward the Museum wing.
